SCROLL DOWN FOR PROJECT LIST

The 19th Annual Day of Caring and Campaign Kick Off will kick off at 8am at the Historic Triangle Community Service Building in the newly remodeled center room which will later become a Day of Caring project!  Volunteers will be spoiled with various donations of food and coffee and everyone will get to mingle with their fellow workers and have their company team pictures taken outside on the lawn.

If a t-shirt sponsor is available this year, T-shirts and healthy snacks, sponsored by the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation and water sponsored by Pepsi, will be picked up by volunteer team leaders a few days prior to Day of Caring, if they cannot be picked up ahead of time, they will be available for pick up that morning.   All companies are encouraged to bring a banner to hold for their photo's to show their corporate involvement, individuals are invited to make their own signs to show their involvement.

Also during the morning kick off, the winners of the 2010 Cruikshank Spirit of the Community Awards will be presented.  CLICK HERE for more details.

The following projects are not happening on Day of Caring but are considered to be Day of Caring projects - scroll down for the projects happening on Day of Caring.  In the past, some of these have happened on day of caring and volunteers who have helped in the past are invited to help again - the events are just as important, they just didn't work out to be on the same day as our official day of caring.

A.  Food Drives for FISH - if your company is unable to participate on Day of Caring, but would like to help out in another way, you can run a food drive.  Starting the week before and collect donations of non-perishable foods through Day of Caring and bring them to the FISH office on September 15th, and/or 17th and 18th.  If you are planning a food drive, please let Zena know so you can be counted as day of caring volunteers and given recognition for your work - team leaders for the project are eligiable to receive day of caring shirts.

Assigned to:

B.   Back to School Celebration See Number 6, Grove Christian Outreach Center - help with set up, help with the games, rides and activities for the kids, help with the cotton candy and popcorn machines and cooking/serving the hotdogs.  This is a celebration for the kids to usher in the new school year - prizes for all the games are school supplies.  Really need 2 clowns and a balloon maker.  Enough projects for up to 30 volunteers from 3pm to 8pm.  Groups of 3 to 5 people to help man each station and help to clean up is essential.

C.  Supply Drive for Avalon  - this works the same was as the food drive for fish, Avalon is in desperate need of various household and office supplies to include:  Laundry detergents, dish detergent, soap, shampoo and other personal hygene items, diapers and other items for infants, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, lysol spray, lysol cleaner, etc.  Office supplies include white out, paper clips, copy paper, construction paper, 2 pocket folders, etc.

D.  Supply Drive for United Way - The United Way offices are always trying to keep their costs down and donations of copy paper, file folders, computer CD and DVD discs,  ink jet (HP  Photosmart C4280) and laser address label sheets, notepads, pens and other office supplies.  Items for our Information and Referral staff to give to clients would include baby diapers, children's books, small personal hygene items (like the travel size and freebies from hotels).

E.  Event Drives for the Arc of Greater Williamsburg - The Arc hosts an annual holiday event each year for their clients, they give them all a "goody bag" at the end of the event which includes items such as a stuffed animal, candy, holiday ornament, toothbrush/toothpaste, hat, t-shirt, etc.  Any donations that can be used for this event would be greatly appreciated, they put together aprox. 100 bags each year, but each bag does not have to be the same.  They also use donated prizes for their monthly bingo nights, donations of t-shirts, boxes of candy, picture frames, bath gift sets, etc.    Donated items can be delivered to the United Way Office the week of Day of Caring and we will get them to the Arc.
