Samantha Snyder, a student at Toano Middle School recently completed a volunteer service project for her National Junior Honor Society membership.  She helped her dentist, Dr. Sebastiana Springmann of New Town Dental Arts, prepare a mailing for the United Way of Greater Williamsburg annual campaign.  Dr. Springmann heads the Healthcare Division of the Campaign Cabinet for United Way.  Samantha and Dr. Springmann ask everyone to help the less fortunate neighbors by supporting the United Way.

On January 12th, as part of William & Mary’s give back to the community day, we had 5 staff visit our office to help stuff thank you letters.  They were all very excited to help and in just over an hour stuffed nearly 700 thank you letters.  They went on a tour of Community Resource Center and learned a little more about what we do here.  A couple have even offered to come back again in February to help stuff more letters.  Thank you William & Mary for allowing these wonderful ladies to visit our office.

September, 2011

Day of Caring was a huge success, on September 15th over 500 volunteers worked on community projects.  During the month of September, other teams worked at different project sites as their Day of Caring projects, including Williamsburg Landing residents helping to stuff the citizens mailing letters.  Due to the hurricane, a couple of project sites were delayed a week or so, but all work was completed by the end of the month, with a total of over 700 volunteers donating their time to make this a healthier community.  CLICK HERE to see our You Tube picture video of the day.

August, 2011

William and Mary students stepped up to volunteer on Tuesday, August 30th after Hurricane Irene caused major devastation to a number of areas of Williamsburg. The students helped in a mobile home development to visit each home owner and evaluate their needs which included access to food & water, health concerns and basic needs. While going from home to home, they also gathered up some loose debris to pile on the side of the road for pick up. The information the students collected was valuable to James City County and helped them to assess the situation in the park in a more timely manner.

THANK YOU!
