In 1993, the Board of Directors of the United Way of Greater Williamsburg established the Cruikshank Spirit of the Community Award. The Cruikshank Award was named after the first recipient, Nan and Pete Cruikshank, in honor of the establishment of United Way's Information & Referral Service. We are encouraging you to submit nominations for this year's awards which will be presented at the 2009 Day of Caring kick-off at Great Wolf Lodge on September 17th at 8:30a.m. Please complete the Nomination Form in the Quick Links section above describing how your candidate(s) has/have achieved the criteria outlined above. You may provide any additional information relevant to the award.

JUDGING CRITERIA
Each nomination will be judged by a panel of 7 committee members. Any "self nominations" will not be accepted. Each nomination is reviewed for:
A. Need - Nominee contributed a needed service to the community
B. Action: Nominee was physically active in service, not just a figurehead
C. Initiative: Nominee started a new program, used new methods to solve problems or initiated activities
D. Impact: The activity of volunteer service produced positive changes and set an example for other volunteers
E. Time: The amount of time devoted to the activity, servie, or agency was significant
All information that can be provided with the nomination helps in determining the voting for each category, so please feel free to provide any documentation that may help your nomination (up to 5 additional pages). There are many wonderful volunteers and many who have created exceptional programs in our community, and we look forward to your serious consideration in honoring these people. The volunteer committee will review the applications to assure the applications adhere to the these requirements.
