Campaign

“To improve people’s lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community”

This is our mission and it is accomplished, in large part, through our annual campaign.  Every year our campaign is responsible for the bulk of funds available for reinvestment within the community.

Would your company like to become involved with this year’s campaign?  If so, please send an e-mail to Barbara Hood.  We can provide the tools for creating a successful workplace campaign.  Events, themes, and other organizational planning tools are available to host a successful campaign.  See some of the support materials for this year’s campaign.

How to LIVE UNITED In Greater Williamsburg

LIVE UNITED, is a sensitive perspective on how, together, we can reach out a hand to one and improve and influence the condition of all.  Today, more than ever, as a community, we need to pull together.

Our Information and Referral Program staff are meeting with people who are walking in with glazed looks on their faces wondering how they’re going to make ends meet.  United Way partner agencies are also reporting an increase in calls for services.  All these inquiries are beginning to stretch the resources of our community making these troubled times even more demanding of our attention. Each and every year, through the United Way Campaign, our neighbors are offered resources and an opportunity to achieve a level of hope and strength.  Instinctively and historically, this community has held out a compassionate hand to those in need.  The benefit of their generosity has had a profound effect on improving the quality of life for many people who have sought help during tough times.  Underneath everything we are, underneath everything we do, we are all one people – connected, interdependent - united.  It takes everyone in the community, working together, to create a brighter future for all.

At United Way, the focus is on five building blocks that can promote a better life: Health and Wellness * Self-Sufficiency * People in Crisis * Children and Youth * Senior Independence. The foundation for these building blocks provides the basic essentials – education, income and health.  Fortified with these fundamentals through the resources in this community, equipped with a quality education, it is possible for a family to earn income to support its needs; and, as a consequence of these essentials, a healthy environment will develop and encourage strong, cohesive families.

We have the ability NOW to turn the tide in our backyard to improve – measurably – the health and well-being of OUR community.   Look beyond today and think of the future and what positive effect your contribution will have to advance the common good.  We invite you to be part of this change – a movement that will mobilize the entire community to LIVE UNITED!
