One of the primary missions of The United Way of Greater Williamsburg (UWGW) is to manage and distribute nearly $1 million in donor funds to community service programs. This distribution process, or “Allocation Process,” occurs annually and involves intensive collaboration between the UWGW leadership and community service agencies.
The nature of this process reflects UWGW’s commitment to: “Integrity, Inclusiveness, Volunteerism, Collaborative Leadership and Measurable Impact.”
It recognizes that donors want contributions used efficiently and effectively to improve people’s lives. This formally structured process challenges community service organizations to be transparent and open about resource management issues and to demonstrate and report their performance in measurable terms (“Outcome Measures”). All applications receive three levels of evaluation and review before any Grant is awarded.
The annual Allocation Process is summarized below:
To facilitate the efficiency of the Allocation Process, electronic versions of the Grant Application and 6 month Outcome Measures Report are downloaded from this website for Agencies to complete and email to the UWGW Director of Community Impact.
UWGW also provides a service to James City County. If Agencies are requesting funding from the County, UWGW will forward their application.
