Offers: Child advocacy services to children who have been abused and/or neglected. The youth are appointed a CASA volunteer by the Juvenile Domestic Relations Court Judge. Volunteers must complete a written application and are needed to provide the advocacy services to the youth. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age and pass a Criminal History Background Check, as well as the Child Protective Services Central Registry Search. They must also complete a 36-hour training course successfully and then they become eligible for matches with youth. Volunteers advocate by investigating the case and providing a written report to the judge for each court hearing involved in the case. In that report, they state the facts of case, provide an assessment of the youth’s situation, and make recommendations to the Judge.

Fee: $1.00 per one-way trip; plus $0.25 to cross into another zone. Maximum fee is $1.25. Those who are elderly - 60 years old and over, and/or disabled with a Medicare card can ride transit's fixed route at a half fare of fifty cents). Middle and high school students with student identification who reside in Greater Williamsburg can ride at no charge. |
