The Home for Good program (HFG) continues to positively impact Greater Williamsburg families transitioning from homelessness or precarious housing situations into permanent housing. HFG just celebrated our 6th graduate family, The Nelson Family! Leatrice and Deotis, her 19-year-old son with autism, were featured on the front page of the Virginia Gazette. With guidance from her Home for Good case manager, Leatrice was able enroll in job training, obtain a full-filling career, learn to budget money, dramatically improve her credit score and enroll Deotis in wonderful day programs at The Arc of Greater Williamsburg. Since the article, Leatrice applied to the James City County First-time Home Buyers program and we hope that she and her son will be our first HFG family to purchase their own home! All HFG families receive case management for 6 months after graduation to provide the encouragement and support necessary to ensure these families stay successful.
All six of these graduated families are utilizing the life skills and resources they learned in the Home for Good program and are maintaining stable, healthy, and financially independent live.
